Law School Internships

The Office of the District Attorney encourages law students to apply for our Summer Law Intern Program.  This unpaid internship, specifically designed for law students, runs from the beginning of June through the middle of August each year.  The program exposes law students to all aspects of the criminal justice system.   Interns are assigned to work closely with Assistant District Attorneys, and assist them in all areas of criminal prosecution.

Law students who are certified by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania will conduct hearings in open court under the supervision of Assistant District Attorneys.   All students will have the opportunity to conduct legal research and assist in trial preparation in the Court of Common Pleas of Montgomery County.  Field trips during the summer include visits to state and county correctional facilities.  Students also have the opportunity to participate in police ride-alongs and receive weekly training sessions on multiple disciplines within criminal law.  Our summer program culminates in a mock trial competition, with District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman sitting as Judge.

Interested students should download and complete the Summer Intern Program Application.  Applications, including a cover letter, school transcript and writing sample, should be sent to Assistant District Attorney Juliet Faulkner or Assistant District Attorney Katherine McGill, P.O. Box 311, Norristown, PA 19404-0311.

Students that are pursuing their undergraduate degree in criminal justice are also encouraged to apply.  However, since the focus of the summer internship is on Law School students, there are only a limited number of spaces for undergraduate students (It is recommended to apply as early as possible).

As an undergraduate student, you will be given critical responsibilities that assist the function of the District Attorney’s office.  You will also have the opportunity to observe Courtroom proceedings, join the field trips and the police ride-along, attend the weekly training sessions, and participate in the mock trial as witnesses.
