Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center of Montgomery County Receives $24,500 Grant
(East Norriton, PA, October 20, 2008)- Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center of Montgomery County is pleased to announce a $24,500 grant from Verizon. This funding will help the Learning Center at the Mission Kids facility in East Norriton to obtain a Smartboard and state-of-the-art computer learning stations.
“We are thrilled about this grant from Verizon ,” said Mission Kids Executive Director Abbie Newman. “The computer stations will be invaluable tools used to educate our volunteers, board members, non-offending family members and young people about child abuse and domestic violence. Our multidisciplinary team members will utilize the SMART board for training and educational purposes.”
Montgomery County Mission Kids will provide a multidisciplinary, child-sensitive facility for the investigation of child abuse. The center will be established in accordance with standards set by the National Children’s Alliance and the federal Department of Justice. The Mission Kids setting will be designed to ease the criminal justice process for abused children and their families. All services, including medical, mental health and social work specialists, as well as prosecutors and law enforcement officials will be centrally located in a newly refurbished building in East Norriton. All services will be provided free of charge; fundraising to complete renovation of the building is still underway.
“Verizon is helping to improve lives by empowering educators, parents and youth with innovative tools and resources to stop domestic violence and increase safety for families in the community,” said Daniel J. Reavy, Director of External Affairs for Verizon Pennsylvania. “We are proud to partner with Mission Kids in its mission to increase safety through education and provide victim relief and empowerment to individuals and families”.
The Mission Kids effort includes renovating an historic farmhouse for use as a permanent Child Advocacy Center in East Norriton. A fundraiser sponsored by the Blue Bell Rotary, the Best of the Chefs, will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Coleman’s Restaurant, tickets are $65/person. On Friday, November 7, 2008, the KIMJA Foundation will be sponsoring a Rocks, Mortar, Bricks & Roll fundraiser in Haverford, PA; tickets are $150/person, and all proceeds will go to Mission Kids.
